For the last twenty years, the political Left has bombarded Americans with panicked statements about Global Warming and the "urgent" need to do something about it. The liberal mass media has repeated these warnings of imminent doom as if the scientific community were in complete agreement and that significant changes were going to occur during our lifetimes. (Curiously alarm bells rang out in the 1970s about Global Cooling and another ice age, but someone apparently decided that it would be better to make a fuss over Global Warming instead.) A rational analysis of the Global Warming claim reveals that temperatures are being measured over less than 50 percent of the world, that temperatures from the MRU Satellite and weather balloons indicate insignificant temperature changes (Ref. 1) and that the basic theory of Global Warming may not have any validity.

During the 1970s a "no growth" movement arose. The population of America was continuing to increase, however, so stopping all new housing and power plant construction was never really an option. Most Americans were (and still are) satisfied with the large national and state park systems, which preserve vast forested areas and large portions of mountain ranges from human encroachment. The "no growth" movement found that it was getting very little support from middle America. The leftist element in the "no growth" movement decided to "solve" this problem by frequent and repeated lying.

While most Americans don't like the "no growth" movement, they do support protecting endangered species. The "no growth" movement therefore morphed into crusaders for obscure species, which they told us were endangered. Suddenly huge areas of private land had to become "no growth" areas because of "endangered" kangaroo rats or snail darters or spotted owls. Somehow these animals can't survive in the vast areas encompassed by state and national parks. They need to have the additional acres that private citizens have purchased for their retirement homes or mountain cabins. The snails, rats and owls became effective tools preventing rural landowners from building homes on their land. Something extra was needed to beat down industry, however, so the Global Warming scare was invented.

An important factor in the new, dishonest version of the "no growth" movement was the far left element. The Communist movement had largely fallen apart in America by the 1970s. Some Communists, like the Clintons, joined the Democrat Party while others invaded the environmental movement. The expression "watermelon" has been used to described the far left members of the environmental movement since they are green on the outside and red on the inside. The Communists of course hate capitalism and delight in punishing industry by imposing endless restrictions on them, whose cost is then passed on to us consumers.

Gerard Jackson (Ref. 1) discussed a flawed computer model that was used to support the Global Warming theory and contrary evidence by scientists, who had studied the problem: "Basing his calculation on the UN's worst predictions... Wigley found that the final result left the world's environment unchanged... He and the others concluded that the effect of waiting 30 more years before acting on CO2 emissions, even assuming the UN's worst case scenario was correct, is so insignificant that it is not worth disrupting the global economy to combat. These findings make a mockery of the IPCC's claims that the next century would see temperatures rise by 3 degrees Celsius and sea levels by 65 cm, causing massive environmental damage."

Douglas Hoyt examined the Global Warming controversy (Ref. 2) and made some remarkable observations. For one thing not that much data is available: "The so-called "global" measurements are not really global at all. At best, they sample 40 percent of the globe. The coverage by land surface thermometers slowly increased from less than 10 percent of the globe to about 40 percent in the 1960's, but has decreased rapidly to less than 20 percent in recent years." In addition to this a "heat island" effect may be throwing off much of the data: "Removing the faulty city and airport observations always has the effect of bringing the surface and MSU (satellite) temperature trends into better agreement. "

Thanks to Al Gore and his fellow scientific illiterates in the leftist branch of the environmental movement, we must spend hundreds of dollars more for our automobile air conditioning all because of a Global Warming theory that has no apparent basis in fact. Restrictions on industry may cause more factories (and jobs) to leave the United States all for a "crisis" that according to the worst prediction would increase temperatures three degrees Celsius in one hundred years. In reality the temperature change is insignificant, and militant leftists and "no growth" fanatics have invented the Global Warming problem to punish capitalism (and us consumers) and to prevent Americans from building on their rural property. The Global Warming scam should be a warning never to believe anything just because the liberal media reports it over and over as if it were fact.
