Segregation that Makes Sense Today

by Sam Daniels

Our education system in America is failing. Studies show that America is falling further behind the rest of the industrialized world with each passing year. The Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), conducted in 1999, shows that out of 38 countries participating in the test, eighth grade American students were ranked 18th in science and 19th in math. (Ref. 1) Hungary, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan scored higher than the U.S. These results are more disappointing considering that four years ago, the same group of students, then fourth graders, scored second in science, behind only Korea, and scored above the international average in math.

This study exposes a serious problem in American public education. The liberal teachers and administrators of the NEA have done considerable damage to our once stellar education system. Where we once had a system based on results and accountability, we now have a system based on diversity and self-esteem. It is more important to love one another and feel good about yourself than it is to read at the proper level or understand math and science. There is no longer any emphasis on intellectual ability or hard work. Our failing public schools are the result of massive forced racial integration, the removal of God from the classroom, the liberalization of young students and a gigantic shift from education to liberal indoctrination. It is not difficult to figure out why American schools are declining every year.

In many modern, politically correct classrooms, 80% of the students are forced to learn at a slower pace so the slowest 20% of the students do not feel bad about themselves. Although racial segregation would help White students learn at a faster pace and would help Black students by allowing tougher classroom discipline (which is necessary to maintain order in Black classrooms), segregation works best with only two races. What would we do with the Asians, Mexicans, Arabs, etc? It would be impossible to have a school for every racial group in America. There is, however, another way to divide students that makes sense today: by intelligence.

Most public schools only make a token effort to divide students by intelligence. The more divisions that are made, the more successful schools become at education. A few big city suburban schools have made as many as five divisions for intelligence and have made it possible for students to learn at whatever rate suits them best. Schools could begin testing at an early age, and begin dividing students into different classes based on their academic aptitude. The very smart students would be put into fast moving, difficult classes. This is being done to some degree today, with Extended Learning Programs (ELP) and other "gifted" programs. There are also special education classes for the borderline-retarded students.

Unfortunately, these programs only deal with the very best and the very worst students. If a brilliant student isn't attending a school in a wealthy suburb, that student may not have access to a gifted student program. There are millions of bright, capable students who attend public schools and who have their learning hindered because of less intelligent students cluttering the classroom. Dividing students into classes based on their intelligence would help not only the bright students, but also the average and below average as well. By attending smaller, slower moving classes, less intelligent students could focus more on the areas they need help in, and focus less on trying to keep up with smarter students. Everyone would receive a higher quality education. So why haven't public schools made this standard procedure everywhere?

The truth is that the current education administration would never allow segregation by intelligence to become widespread for one reason: RACE. All of the powerful decision makers in Washington D.C. and in every school district in America know that if we separated students based on intelligence, there would be a disproportionate number of minority students in the slower classrooms. It is irrefutable. Even though students would be separated based on intelligence, not race, it would become a race issue, and it all stems from the systematic brainwashing of Americans since the 1960s. People do not want to accept the fact that race plays an issue in intelligence, no matter how much scientific and statistical evidence is produced to prove it. In 2001, average American ACT scores rose slightly, yet the racial gap increased. The average score for White students was 21.8, Asian students scored second at 21.7, and Black students scored considerably lower at 16.9. (Ref. 2) The 2001 SAT scores show the same trend. The average White score was 1060, while the average Black score was 859, a 17% gap. (Ref. 3)

Most people have been so brainwashed in America that when they see factual evidence such as the ACT and SAT results, they choose to believe that the system must be racist, or at least racially biased, instead of accepting the reality that different races have different abilities. We use a purely performance-based system in other fields, particularly sports. Why is it acceptable to allow only the best basketball players into the NBA, regardless of race, but this same criteria used elsewhere causes liberals to have fits? It just so happens that Blacks are better basketball players than Whites. No one labels the NBA "racist" because Blacks play better than Whites, but our education system is "racist" because Whites score better than Blacks.

Dividing students based on intelligence could not reasonably be called a "racist policy." As long as a few clever mulattoes made it into the gifted classes, and a few Whites, who won't study, get kicked down to the remedial classes, it would be a truly performance-based system. Students could work hard and study with a curriculum designed to fit their needs. There would be annual testing, and students who work hard and test higher the following year could move into a faster moving class. Students who failed to meet the requirements would move down to slower classes. There would be an incentive to do well, and those, who did not do well, would no longer interfere with the education of others.

Even though "segregation by intelligence" would greatly improve education, sadly it will never happen in our politically correct society because there would be an overwhelming number of minorities in the slower classrooms. The liberals will do all they can to prevent such a system from being implemented. We would be inundated with allegations of racism, insensitivity and unfairness. In the liberal mind, it is "unfair" to less intelligent children to place them in slower moving classes. Liberals do not consider it unfair to slow down the education of the majority of students. Until public schools abandon political correctness and adopt effective programs such as "segregation by intelligence," our schools, society and country will continue to decline.
